Happy Birthday to Monkey!
Monkey turns 8 on May 30! We had a birthday party for him today with some of his friends from school. We did an Sporty Birthday Party complete with the football cake I made. It sure was yummy!Soccer and Water Balloon Launching
Boys and soccer go together. 7 and 8 year old boys have so much energy, that I thought playing a game of soccer might wear them out a little.... it didn't.
The boys loved launching water balloons. We had a contest to see who could make theirs go the farthest. After the launch, the critters would run to where their balloon landed, grab the balloon, and wait to see if someone launched a balloon farther than they did... or if they just made a good target, which happened a few times! :)Wrist Rockets and Kick Ball
Flower Power
I love flowers! I love to plant them, I love to smell them, I love to look at them.
I have been waiting for my peonies to bloom for several weeks, then last weekend one of the critters drug the hose around the house and smashed the plant. I propped it up with a cone and it bloomed in spite of the injury. It is beautiful!
Iris are such curious looking flowers!
Interesting how tall these iris blooms shot up, way over the top of the plants!
Don't you just love the little Johnny Jump Ups?

Don't you just love the little Johnny Jump Ups?My favorite flower is the lilac and the sweet pea, but I don't have any lilacs and the sweet peas are about 1 inch tall right now. I remember burying my face in bouquets of sweet peas when I was little, I could just drink in the smell of them! When I die, I want a lilac bush planted on top of me. I think lilacs and sweet peas will bloom constantly in my world! And yes, I love the lilac and sweet pea fragrances that Scentsy has!
Memorial Day Weekend
Sometimes things get so crazy busy that I forget to take pictures, darn it! Hare came to visit Saturday night and stayed all day Sunday. She went to church with us and hung out until the Fish Family came over for dinner Sunday afternoon. We had a great time eating and the kids played outside. Then on Memorial Day we didn't really do too much so I didn't take any pictures. We did weed the garden and the kids spent a lot of time playing outside again. No big BBQ or anything darn it. I guess it was relaxing though, so that's good.
Capture the... GIANT shoe!
Outdoor Critters
It's SHOWTIME!
Friday night the critters had a concert for a show choir they have been in. They sure looked sharp in their costumes!

Last Day of School
The "Caldwell Critters" (as we call them here on the funny farm) last day of school was Friday May 23. They had a concert, did a RAD presentation (Race Against Drugs) and had an awards assembly. I was several rows back and holding a squirming critter, so I didn't get any good pictures, but here are a couple. The 4-7 graders did the RAD performance and it was AWESOME! The K-3 graders sat for over an hour and watched the narration, dialog, dancing, acting and singing with choreography. It was a long program but all the critters did a fantastic job learning so many songs, all of which had actions. It was just a great program. At the awards assembly Monkey got most outstanding 1st grade PE student and Bee got most improved 3rd grader! Way to go! Grandma Lab came for the weekend. She picked a great weekend to come because the critters had so many things going on that she got to participate in! After the concert and awards, we went home for Lemur and Grandma Lab to take a nap.

Crazy Critters
Monday afternoon it rained and hailed like crazy. The wind blew and those crazy critters went out in it. They had a blast running around and getting soaking wet.
I was putting the pictures on the computer and first I came to this mass of black feathers with a naked bird body, then I saw this picture. I guess Bee's cat, Kiara caught a bird and the critters took a picture of it... I spared you the naked half eaten bird picture... gak! Apparently Kiara enjoyed it though!90 degrees

The Weekend
We only had Lemur this weekend. We went to Home Depot on Friday night and got stuff for the Garden, then Saturday morning worked in the garden for a few hours while it was cool. Hunter went to turn on the water and I hear this streak of, let's say "colorful language!" Hunter isn't usually a swearin' man, but he hollered a few Saturday morning when he almost stepped on this bull snake. She was almost 4 feet long. We kept our eye on her as she took about 2 hours to mosey around the house house and head out to the sage brush. I don't really mind snakes, but as I've done yardwork the past few days, I've certainly been scanning the area before I take a step. :)
Aahhh, don't you love Sunday afternoon naps? Lemur woke up before Hunter and I did, and Bee and Monkey took him for a walk so we could sleep. They left us this note, so responsible. Don't worry, even though their names are on it, it won't "Google" so it's okay. I love the spelling and the punctuation. :) (we are talking.. for a walk, we will be bake... )

Purple Critters, Purple Flowers
The critters and I ran to a local Greenhouse after school and got a few annuals to brighten the place up. We've planted lots and lots of seeds, but it will be a while before they bloom and I just couldn't wait for color!
It's so nice having critters that love to be and work outside as much as I do. I had a bunch to do inside this afternoon, so Monkey and Bee offered to plant the flowers for me.
I put aside my Type A! perfectionist personality and let them do it, knowing full well that seeds and plants planted by children generally grow better than those planted by adults. I have no idea why that is, but it is the rumor. Studies have shown..... Anyway, they did a great job, found a few pet worms, which they will allow to continue to live in the flower bed, got muddy fingers, then went happily on their way for a bike ride. Bee got released today from her Physical Therapist to ride her bike!!!! She was really excited!Magnetic draw to mud!
This afternoon I, the Zookeeper took Lemur outside for some fresh air and sunshine. I put him down on the grass where normally he plays with the grass and heads for the rocks to play with. I walked over to the shed to get the lawnmower, and came right back to Lemur, who wasn't there. He had hauled buns over to the garden where I had just moved the sprinkler. He was having a great time splashing in the puddles and playing in the mud. So much for clean new shoes!Monday, May 12, 2008
Goin' to the Ranch
We went to "the Ranch" for the weekend. Mama Fox and her two kits were there. Vixen didn't want her picture taken very bad, but little Tod fox didn't care. Chameleon got him to smile a bunch! It was fun having Mama fox and her two kits there. They went back Sunday morning with Chameleon... I didn't get pictures of some of the lil' lizards or Ma Lizard or chameleon, but they were all there, along with Mustang on Saturday. He went home Saturday evening to see Mare and the colt who is 1 week old now! We had a really nice weekend. It's always fun to hang out around family because everyone just accepts us for who we are and over looks our weaknesses.

The Branding
I didn't take very many pictures with my camera of the branding this year because I was taking pictures for Mustang and a friend who was helping out. I forgot to get one of Bug who was ear marking. He did a great job and was super dirty to show for it!
The Hunter says he needs to practice roping a little more. He did catch a couple though. He liked working the ground.
Oh, Bug rode a calf for the first time. Mustang said he stayed on longer than any kid he'd ever seen ride a calf. It was a good rodeo! :)
