Since Hunter's boss was a killed about a year ago things at his work have been going downhill. All summer he spent researching different ideas. Ultimately he decided to buy a heavy-haul semi and trailer. We bought the semi in September and FIANLLY got on the road 3 weeks later. He went in one day to give his 2 weeks notice at work and they said "go home." It would have been nice to collect the "safetly bonus" he earned and his 2 weeks paid vacation he never got, not to mention get the black walnut lumber he had stored and drying in one of the sheds. When he called to ask about that the owner laughed and said she had given it away. Hunter spoken to a friend from work 2 days earlier and it was still there... humm.. So, those types of things make him realize how happy he is to be gone and to be his own boss. PLUS, there is the fact that his back doesn't hurt anymore like it used to!!
We are now adjusting to a new life; one of dad rarely being home. Hunter's hope is to get connections and one day get a set run between a mill Northern Idaho and here where they unload milled lumber. That way he can be home every night. That would be great but that means driving the horrid road between New Meadows and Grangeville and that equals a STRESSED OUT WIFE!!! Right now he is hauling things back and forth between SLC and the coast. He is home every few nights and on Friday night through Sunday night, so we can't complain too much. I'm glad he is happier. As soon as the money starts rolling in I'll be happier too. Until then we are really thankful that we have a good food storage and lots of firewood to burn and keep the house cozy warm.
