Since Hunter and I have been married, we have been using a table that belonged to my Dad's mom - it was really narrow, I mean... REALLY narrow. We could barely fit dinner plates on both sides of the table, with just a tiny bit of room between plates. Get all 9 of us around the table... well, it was tight. We usually put the food on the counter and did buffet style meals when everyone was home. A couple of years ago, Hunter milled a black walnut tree and dried the wood. He gave his dad the wood and like magic, Tortoise turned it into a beautiful new table for us! We have been looking forward to the day our new table would arrive for a very, very long time. Well, the day finally arrived. We had to have some friends come over and help unload the table from the trailer and get it into the house - Hunter says it probably weighs about 250 pounds.
Finally in the house!
The new table takes up our entire dining space. Guess it's time for a diningroom remodel!!
One of our first meals around our new table with the whole family. There was room for everyone AND the food!! Tortoise is going to build some benches... the wood is drying right now, so maybe in another year or two we will have 4 short benches on each side, and a chair on each end.
Tortoise did such a fabulous job on our table. It is truly a work of art!! The grains in the wood are beautiful!! I have never seen Hunter so protective of something in my life. It's kinda funny. We are happy, happy, HAPPY to have our new table. Finally!
