The DIII Marching Band Competition was on the Blue Turf again this year. VHS chose a performance that was super hard, and they worked their buns off perfecting it from August until the competition. Martin landed one of the solos this year - quite an honor in a band of 160+. Here is the band headed to the field.
Warming up.
Not a real clear picture, but there are the 3 soloists... Martin is the tallest one, there on the right. (our seats were WAAAY at the top of the stadium)
The name of the program was Connexus - The word connexus is built from the word "con" meaning together or jointly, and the word "nexus" meaning a center or a place of connection. This production is an exhilarating exploration of intersecting patterns and melodies.... and it was EXHILARATING!
I love all the different formations that they make.
VHS is know for its elite marching band, and once again, they won DIII! There are 7 categories that the bands are judged on - I can't remember them all, but they are for things like marching, music selection, auxilary (the dancers) overall quality etc. etc. It truly was an amazing performance, not only because they did so great, but because it was an extremely hard piece - one usually college level bands perform. Well done VHS Marching Band!!!
Celebrating on the Blue Turf after the competition. (Martin is front row, right side, mouth open) "G" the director is in front.
The 3 soloists with the 7+ foot tall trophy.
